I think we’ve all heard it by now. Donald Trump’s snappy campaign catchphrase, “Make America Great Again.” It’s the rallying cry for his conservative, “right-winged” Republican supporters — the great majority of which feel they’re losing their country and its position as a world power.
For us skeptics, we ask, “how can Trump possibly make America great again?” especially since America is in an advanced state of moral decay. God has been pushed out of every aspect of life: political, private and public. Many Americans are so apathetic and materialistic. They have replaced God with idols of their own fashioning. Life to them is all about pursuing the American Dream, buying more and more stuff, obtaining the latest and greatest with money they don’t have. Is there any hope for America? Is America so far away from God that there is no possibility of restoration?
According to a September Washington Post-ABC News poll, more than three-quarters of Trump supporters said America’s greatest days were behind them.
Will Trump’s idea of building a wall around America to keep the refugees out actually solve the problem? Will any of Trump’s grandiose schemes for making his nation a better place for all, actually achieve anything? Is Trump really the solution? After all, candidates always promise a lot of ear-tickling things in order to get votes and subsequently be elected. It happens all the time and we can anticipate it at every election. These people are masters at playing on voters’ emotions and appealing to their dispositions.
I’m certainly not a fan of Hillary Clinton by any means, but Trump’s ego and vulgar track record are things that I find very disconcerting. Recent allegations have come to light regarding Trump’s denigrating words about women, spoken in a locker room a decade ago. Of course much could be said about Bill Clinton’s long history of sex crimes and Hillary’s coverups of those crimes. Trump has since apologised over his crude comments and states that’s not the type of person he is now. Running mate, Mike Pence and other Republicans like former California Gov Arnold Schwarzenegger have distanced themselves from the now disgraced Trump. Many in the Republican party are calling for Pence to replace Trump.
There’s a lesson for us here. It’s so easy to put people on a pedestal and worship them as if they’re divine. We can’t do that.
I think we look too much to the power of man to solve issues on this planet. The cold hard truth is that we as frail and fallen human beings do not have power in and of our ownselves. We think that somehow greatness can be found within us, but without God, that is a total fallacy.
We see it all the time, leaders rise and then they fall. God orchestrates their rise to power and He is also the one who allows them to fall. In other words, God is sovereign and He reigns over all.
There’s only solution for making America great again. One word: GOD. Humble dependence on God which must be preceded first by genuine repentance of all of mankind.
It doesn’t matter if we elect a leader of our own choosing if the nation is not willing to bow to the authority of the one and only true God. These leaders are mere mortals, not demi-gods. They are imperfect and they do not possess any power of their ownselves. I’m not saying God can’t use these leaders for His purposes. Of course He can. God can use evil leaders to judge His people as well. I’m also not saying God can’t use Trump for His purposes. He sure can and I hope and pray that God will do this according to His sovereign plan and purposes.
If the spirit of God does not move on America and there is no revival, then anything and everything done in the name of man’s strength will come to utter failure.
Time’s running out for America but I believe there is still hope. For as long as God’s offer of mercy to this lost world is extended, there will always be hope. However that deadline is coming up very soon. One day that offer of mercy will run out.
2 Chronicles 7:14 promises,”If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
It is up to each one of us to make sure we are at good terms with our Creator. Change starts with every single one of us. It starts with you! Do some serious soul searching. Ask yourself if you’re contributing in part to the destruction of America by your sinful lifestyle. Be humbled at the power of God, pray and seek His face. If every individual does that, God will look down from Heaven and He will see repentance sweeping across the nation and He will provide forgiveness and healing.
